I watched the movie (2003) first, since pals had told me that the movie basically a 1.5 hour compression of all the episodes. The sub-character Asahina really grabbed my attention; her death was really uncalled for. The music was wonderful, and the landscape designs were also quite stunning. I watched about ten minutes of the series, and decided that it wasn’t worth my time. The religious symbolisms are as complicated and bewildering as those in NGE.
